Women runner’s Fischer and Marek represent team at Nationals; run Personal Bests

Louisville, Kentucky (Blugolds.com) – This past Saturday about 600 miles from home, runners Callie Fischer (Jr. - Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Morgan Marek (So. - Muskego, WI/Muskego) represented the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country in the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Results

For both Fischer and Marek, it was a familiar experience and were well prepared; they both ran at Nationals with the team last year.

Fischer and Marek worked together for most of the race and each ended their seasons with personal bests. Fischer finished 77th overall in a time of 21:46, and Marek placed 90th in the nation in a time of 21:54.

"I think they moved up very well," said Head Coach Dan Schwamberger. "And they did a great job working together."

Although both women ran extremely well this year, it's hard to ignore their potential next year and what the entire team can accomplish. In fact, Fischer, Marek, and the women's entire top seven runners from this season will be returning in uniform next year. Schwamberger thinks a great reason to stay motivated.

Meanwhile, the women's cross country team will take a well a brief but well-deserved break from training before preparing for the indoor track & field season.
