WINNECONNE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by UW-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, WI on Saturday.
It was a chilly day with a light breeze and temperature in the low 30's. Fortunately, the snow stayed to the south of the race course, which allowed for near perfect course conditions for a November cross country meet in Wisconsin. The Blugolds finished 16th of 32 teams improving upon their 17th place showing one year ago.
Lucy Ramquist (Sr.-River Falls, WI) capped off an incredible career placing 8th of 280 runners with a 6K time of 21:33 and earning All-American honors (top 35). Ramquist fell down rounding a corner about 3600 meters into the race but managed to keep her composure and worked herself gradually back up into the top 10 during the final 2 kilometers of the race. Ramquist is the 19th woman in Blugold history to earn All-American honors and the 8th U- Eau Claire student-athlete to place in the top 10 at Nationals.
Clara Williamson (Sr.-Skokie, IL/Niles North HS) improved upon her 104th place finish at the 2014 championships placing 72nd overall in 22:10.
