Blugolds down Pioneers, 3-1

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team won their fourth straight match Tuesday night over UW-Platteville, 3-1.

The first set began with a Platteville lead, but the Blugolds were able to quickly respond and end up winning the game, 26-24. Arianna Barrett (So.-Lakeville, MN/North) had the last three kills of the set for Eau Claire, with all of them off assists from Abbey Pederson (So.-Canby, MN).

After dropping the next set, Eau Claire responded once again by taking the next two. A kill from Krista Meyer (Jr.-Germantown, WI) off a feed from Leah Witzel (Jr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) finished things off in the third, 25-20. Witzel set up Makenzie Bachmann (Jr.-Chaska, MN) for the last kill in the fourth, 25-14.

Top performers for the Blugolds included Kendra Baierl (Jr.-Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic), who led everyone with 12 kills. Bachmann added nine herself, while Barrett contributed eight in total. Witzel set up her teammates to the tune of 20 assists, while Taylor Scalia (Jr.-Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) recorded 16 digs.

The latest victory improved Eau Claire to 14-8 and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Next up, they will go on the road this weekend to participate in the Illinois Wesleyan Holiday Inn Classic. Their first match will be on Friday at 7:30 PM, where they will square off against Illinois Wesleyan.
