Volleyball falls to Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team dropped their second-straight match on Friday night, falling on the road to Cornell College, 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 28-26).

After falling in the first set, 25-18, UW-Eau Claire fought back and tallied six-straight points to take a 24-20 advantage. However, the Rams went on a run of their own, tying the set at 24 apiece. Cornell would take that momentum to a 27-25 win.

In the final frame, the Blugolds again held a late lead but the Rams would score four-straight points yet again to pull ahead 25-24. An Arianna Barrett (So.-Lakeville, MN/North) kill tied the score at 25 but Cornell responded with one of their own. Barrett tied it up again with another kill, but the Rams would get back-to-back kills to take the set and secure the win.  

Barrett led the Blugolds with 11 of the team's 35 kills while also racking up a team-high 14 digs and two aces. Leah Witzel (Jr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) also tallied 24 assists.
