Blugolds earn AVCA regional honors

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Teams were announced Thursday, with three Blugolds players and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball Head Coach Kim Wudi garnering honors.

Earning First Team Midwest All-Region honors were Madelyn Pashibin (Sr. – Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) and Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) while Arianna Barrett (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/North) was named Honorable Mention and Region Freshmen of the Year.

Pashibin earns a spot on the All-Region team for the second year in a row. The senior outside hitter was also named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Offensive Player of the Year and the Judy Kruckman WIAC Scholar-Athlete.

Surprise also claimed WIAC First Team honors this season, which is the second consecutive season the senior setter has earned a spot on the conference's First Team.

Newcomer Barrett has made herself known in her first season as a Blugold, earning WIAC First Team, Honorable Mention All-Region and Region Freshman of the Year honors.

Head Coach Kim Wudi claimed Region Coach of the Year honors after being named WIAC Coach of the Year. The Blugolds won the conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 record and captured the conference tournament championship to secure the WIAC's automatic bid with a 3-1 win over UW-Whitewater in the WIAC title game.
