ST. PAUL (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire women's volleyball looked to bounce back Saturday afternoon after conceding their first loss of the season to host team Augsburg University on Friday. The Blugolds avenged the loss with back-to-back games wins on Saturday, defeating Wartburg College (IA) and the University of St. Thomas (MN).

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

In the first game of the afternoon, the Blugolds would make quick work of their opponent, Wartburg College. The Blugolds took the clean sweep of Wartburg by winning all three of the first sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-16).  The Blugolds were led by senior hitter, Madelyn Pashibin (Sr.-Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) as she once again would lead the team in kills for the second time in the tournament.

More senior leadership would be on display as UW-Eau Claire's setter Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly), would record 35 assists. The Blugolds also recorded their fifth clean sweep of the season after defeating the Knights.

In the second game of the afternoon, Eau Claire would take on familiar foes out of the MIAC, St. Thomas. The Blugolds went into the match with an all-time record of 7-16 against the Tommies but it would be Eau Claire taking home the 3-1 win to improve to 7-1.

Pashibin would again lead the charge, recording 18 kills while Makenzie Bachmann (So. – Chaska, MN) recorded 15 and  Kendra Baierl (So. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) added 13.

Taylor Scalia (So. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) tallied 13 digs while Surprise added 52 assists.

The Blugolds (7-1) will travel back to the Twin Cities on Wednesday to take on Northwestern and will be back on home for the weekend as they host the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament, presented by Nike/Eastbay.
