Volleyball suffers first loss of the season

MINNEAPOLIS (Blugolds.com) – Augsburg University handed the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team their first loss of the season on Friday, defeating the Blugolds 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 23-25).

The first set was a back-and-forth battle with neither team mounting more than a three-point lead. A Makenzie Bachmann (So. – Chaska, MN) kill gave the Blugolds a 20-18 advantage, but the Auggies would rally back to take the opening set, 25-21.

Eau Claire would battle back to take set two, but Augsburg would prove to be too much as they would take sets three and four for the win.

Madelyn Pashibin (Sr. – Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) led Eau Claire with 19 kills while Kendra Baierl (So. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) followed with 15 and Bachmann added 11. Baierl also had four blocks for the Blugolds.

Bachmann also led the team with 19 digs with Amber Karn (Sr. – Middleton, WI) chipping in 17. Senior setter Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) recorded 53 assists while Krista Meyer tallied four aces.
