Blugolds go 4-0, Scalia named Tournament MVP at Kean Invitational

UNION, NJ (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team continued their dominance at the Kean University Invitational on Sunday, sweeping Kean and Rivier to finish the weekend 4-0.

The Blugolds did not drop a single set in their trip to the east coast, defeating Kean by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-23 and Rivier 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18.

In game one again Kean, Arianna Barrett (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/North) paced the Blugolds with 14 kills and 11 digs while Madelyn Pashibin (Sr. – Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) also hit double-digit kills with 10. Makenzie Bachmann (So. – Chaska, MN) and Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) also contributed 10 digs apiece while Surprise also served up 38 assists.

In their final game of the tournament, Bachmann led the offense with 13 kills with Pashibin again tallying 10. Taylor Scalia (So. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) recorded 15 digs in the win along with four aces. Jenna Phillips (So. – Oconomowoc, WI/Kettle Moraine) also added 10 digs for the Blugolds.

Surprise was named to the All-Tournament Team while Scalia was named Tournament MVP. For the weekend, Surprise recorded 148 assists, 26 digs, four aces and four block assists. Scalia had an impressive 54 digs and nine aces on the weekend.
