EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The 2016 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-Region teams were announced Thursday morning. Named to the AVCA Midwest All-Region Team was Blugolds outside hitter Heather Sawchuk.

AVCA Release

Sawchuk, a junior from Roseville, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall), made an immediate impact upon joining the Blugolds after playing at Division II Cal State San Bernardino the previous two years. In her first full season with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team, Sawchuk led the Blugolds in kills with 481, equalling to 4.08 per set, also a team-best.

Those numbers topped the conference as well, leading Sawchuk to be selected to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team this season. Her 535.5 total points were also the best in the conference.

Sawchuk is the first Blugold to be named to the AVCA All-Region Team since Kelly Schuh did so in 2013. In the team's forty-seven year history, she is just the twenty-first UW-Eau Claire player to be selected to the All-Region Team.
