Raskie earns WIAC Co-Scholar-Athlete honors

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Katrina Raskie and UW-Whitewater's Lauren Pfeifer have named co-recipients of the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award.

Raskie, a senior from Weston, Wis. (D.C. Everest), boasts a 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in psychology with a minor in family studies. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been recognized on UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List and Honors Program every semester.

A three-year team captain, she claimed All-WIAC first team recognition the last two years after receiving honorable mention status in 2014. Raskie led the team in kills during the 2014 and 2015 seasons and received the squad's Top Newcomer Award in 2013. She recorded her 1,000th career kill earlier this season, becoming the seventh Blugold to accomplish the feat.

Raskie has volunteered with Marshfield Community Connections and Big Brothers, Big Sisters, while also serving as a Student-Athlete Peer Mentor and Student Academic Advisor.

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October 1984 - September 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
