LEXINGTON, KY. (blugolds.com) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team was a recipient of their Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

"This award speaks to the high standards that our program holds for itself, both on the court and in the classroom," said head coach Kim Wudi. "I'm really proud that the student-athletes on our team value success in academics in the same way they value success in athletics."

A total of 762 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, surpassing the all-time high of 757 teams the prior year.

The Blugolds concluded their 2015-16 season with an overall record of 27-10, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. In the program's 16th appearance in the national tournament, and first since 2012, UWEC advanced to the second round.

Wudi returns for her tenth season as the Blugolds' head coach as the team opens its season at the University of Chicago Tournament on Friday, September 2.
