Oawster and Blugolds earn USTFCCCA honors

NEW ORLEANS (Blugolds.com) – Despite the fact the Blugolds did not compete today, it has been a history-making day for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's track and field team.

Tuesday morning, Erica Oawster (Jr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after taking the top spot in the nation in the discus (49.85m, 163-6), just short of the NCAA Division III all-time mark. The junior is also ranked number two in the nation in the shot put (15.11m, 49-7). The honor is the first time an athlete from UW-Eau Claire has been named National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season, regardless of gender.

Tuesday afternoon, the USTFCCCA announced the new national rankings, with the Blugold women claiming the number one spot, the first time that a Blugold team has been ranked first by the USTFCCCA during the outdoor season, regardless of gender.

In their final prep for the national meet, the Blugolds will travel to the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet or the Augustana Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 17th. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day or the UWEC Blugolds app on your mobile device.
