Women fourth, men fifth at Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire outdoor track and field teams competed at the Phil Esten Challenge (hosted by UW-La Crosse) this weekend, with the women finishing in fourth place and the men taking fifth.

David Kornack (Jr. – Edgar, WI) won the shot put with a distance of 17.33 meters and finished fifth in the discus (45.80m).

In the long jump, Adam Lembke (Fr. – Waukesha, WI/West) was second with a height of 6.66 meters while Alex Schutt (Jr. – Cameron, MN) was fourth in the triple jump (13.08m).

Michael Amerlan (So. – Itasca, IL/Lake Park West) took fourth in the decathlon with 6240 points. He was first in the discus (34.59m) was second in the 100m (11.45).

Hunter Henk (So. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) took third in the 100m (11.18) while Sam Kuhlmann (Jr. – Shorewood, WI) was third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:45.56.

KJ Munn (So. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep) was second in the 400m with a time of 48.87 while Brandon Christnovich (Jr. – Holmen, WI) was fifth (49.86). Munn was also fourth in the 200m, clocking in at 22.29.

For the women, JoHannah Theisen (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Regis) won the shot put (13.95m) while Kassandra Lueck So. – Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) was third (12.85m).

Sarah Glidden (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Hortonville) won the heptathlon with a score of 4918 while Megan Wallace (Fr. – Burlington, WI) was fourth with 4252 points.

Glidden was first in the high jump (1.68m), long jump (5.33m), 200m (25.21), 800m (2:28.75) and second in the 100m hurdles (14.93) and javelin (33.15m). Wallace was second in the 200m (26.53) and long jump (5.13m).

In the 200m, Ashleigh Buergi (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) won with a time of 25.51 and Samantha Slattery (Jr. – Waunakee, WI) won the 10,000m with a time of 35:54.28 while Callie Fischer Sr. – Oneida, WI/Ashwaubenon) was third (36:32.38).

Kelsey Worachek (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Xavier) took fifth in the 100m and fourth in the 200m with times of 12.57 and 25.93, respectively.


Mel Becker (Sr. – Osseo, WI/homeschool) took third in the 1500m (4:37.94) and 
Alanna Huggett (Fr. – Marshall, WI) was fourth in the 5000m (19:16.06).
Next up for the Blugolds is the Drake Relays on Friday, April 27 and the Saint Mary's (MN) Invite on Saturday, April 28.
