Reineck and Schneider earn WIAC honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Jessie Reineck (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Head Coach Chip Schneider have been named the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet and WIAC Coach of the Year.

Reineck collected four WIAC titles at this year's championship, securing the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. The 4x400-meter relay team also established a conference meet record.

Schneider led the Blugolds to a second place finish at the WIAC Championships with Eau Claire winning six events. In addition to Reineck's wins in the 200 and 400-meter dash, Samantha Slattery (So. – Waunakee, WI) won the 5K while field athletes Sarah Glidden's (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Hortonville) and Erica Oawster (So. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) won the high jump and discus.

The winning 400-meter relay team consisted of Reineck, Kelsey Worachek (Jr. – Appleton, WI/Xavier), Claire Fischer (So. – Appleton, WI/North) and Jess Rupnow (Sr. – Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton while Reineck, Glidden, Rupnow and Ashleigh Buergi (Jr. – Green Bay/Bay Port) teamed up to win the 1600-meter relay.  

The Blugolds will compete in two Last Chance meets before heading to the NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio May 25-27.
