Glidden Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships

CANTON, NY (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire women's track and field multi-event athlete Sarah Glidden (So.-Greenville, WI/Hortonville) earned All-America status in the heptathlon today at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University at the Merrick-Pickard Track and Field Complex.

The Blugolds are tied for 25th place entering the final day of competition with three points.  Illinois Wesleyan is the overall team leader with 24 points followed by MIT with 15 points.

Glidden finished in sixth place with a two-day overall score and new school record of 4,813 points.  Glidden placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.83, seventh in the long jump with a leap of 16-11.5 (5.17 meters) and 12th in the javelin with a throw of 104-6 (31.86 meters).  The new school record broke the previous mark of 4,785 points also set by Glidden on April 17, 2015 in La Crosse.

Teammate Marina Eggen (Jr.-Greenville, WI/Hortonville) also competed in the heptathlon finishing in 14th place.  Marina placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 110-7 (33.71 meters), 12th in the long jump with a leap of 16-3 (4.95 meters) and 15th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.79.

Carly Fehler (Sr.Oak Creek, WI) will get the chance to defend her 100-meter dash national championship as she advanced to tomorrow's final.  Fehler finished third overall with a time of 12.09 seconds.  Kelsey Worachek (Fr.-Appleton, WI/Xavier) also competed in today's 100-meter dash preliminaries tying for 20th place with a time of 12.56 seconds.

Tomorrow will be the final day of NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Several Blugolds will be on the docket including Fehler in the 100 and 200-meter dash finals while Lucy Ramquist (Sr.-River Falls, WI) will compete in the 5,000-meter run.  Glidden will compete in the high jump while both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400-meter relays will also compete.
