Glidden Sets School Record at Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Sarah Glidden (So.-Greenville, WI/Hortonville) established a new school record in the Heptathlon as the UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team competed at the Phil Esten Challenge hosted by UW-La Crosse at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.

Eau Claire finished 3rd out of 11 teams earning 127 points.  UW-La Crosse won the challenge collecting 222 points followed by Winona State (MN) with 185 points.

Glidden finished second in the Heptathlon collecting a total of 4,785 points winning the high jump and the 200-meter dash while finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles.  Glidden cleared 5-7.75 (1.72 meters) which is currently tied for the second-highest jump in NCAA Division III.  Her total of 4,785 points broke the previous school record of 4,636 points set by Kelsey Weigel on May 15, 2013 at Naperville, Illinois.

Carly Fehler (Sr.-Oak Creek, WI) won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.  Fehler won the 100 with a time of 11.96 seconds while winning the 200 crossing the finish line in 24.52 seconds.  Her time in the 200 is currently the fastest time in NCAA Division set surpassing the previous top time in the nation of 24.58 seconds.

The Blugolds finished 1-2 in the steeple chase led by Steph Dunlavy (Sr.-Colby, WI) winning the event with a time of 11:21.20.  Katryna Williams (Jr.-Watertown, WI) finished just behind Dunlavy to earn a second place finish posting a time of 11:33.17.

Julia Stedman (Jr.-Maplewood, MN/North St. Paul) earned second place in the triple jump topping out with a jump of 37-6.75 (11.45 meters).

Jessie Reineck (Jr.-Greenville, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) placed third in the 200 clocking in at 25.10 seconds.  Jessica Rupnow (Jr.-Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.31 seconds.

In the distance events Josey Rieber (So.-Holmen, WI) finished third in the 5,000-meter run finishing the event in 19:26.75.  Callie Fischer (Fr.-Oneida, WI/Ashwaubenon) placed third in the 10,000-meter run completing the run in 39:12.45.

The Blugolds will split to complete in three different events next Friday and Saturday.  They will compete at the Drake and Gina Relays in addition to the St. Mary's (MN) Open.
