Three Blugolds win national titles at NCAA Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (Blugolds.com) – On the final day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, three Blugolds claimed national titles while the men's team finished in fourth place and the women tied for seventh.

After breaking the school shot put record for a second time this season at the WIAC Championships (19.18m, 62-11.25), David Kornack (Sr. – Edgar, WI) crushed his record again to take the top spot on the podium. The senior unleashed a toss of 19.83m (65-0.75) in his first attempt and would go on to win the event by four feet.

Kyler Lueck (Jr. – Germantown, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) also claimed a national title, winning the 800m with a meet record time of 1:49.60, which is the fifth fastest time in NCAA Division III history.

Erica Oawster (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) used her last attempt in the shot put to claim the her national title. The senior edged Nebraska Wesleyan's Dayton Dolincheck by an inch, winning the event with a toss of 48-5.5 (14.77m) which also sets a new Blugold record.

Patrick Treacy (Sr. – Fall Creek, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) also earned points for the Blugold men, taking third in the mile run with a time of 4:08.98.

The 4x400m relay team of Hunter Henk (Jr. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls), Arik Skifstad (Fr. - Eau Claire, WI/North), Brandon Christnovich (Sr. – Holmen, WI), KJ Munn (Jr. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep Academy) also tallied points for Eau Claire with a sixth place finish, clocking in with a time of 3:18.10.

Also competing on Saturday was Kady Kochendorfer (Fr. - Hudson, WI) who was 16th in the triple jump (11.39m, 37-4.5) in her first national meet appearance. The newcomer entered the meet seeded 20th.

The Blugolds will now have a break until their opening outdoor meet on April 6 at UW-La Crosse.
