Women's Track & Field wins first Indoor WIAC Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's track and field team won the program's first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship (presented by Culver's) on Saturday, while the men's squad finished in fifth.

The Blugold women tallied 172.50 points to edge UW-La Crosse who came in second with 162.50 points. On the men's side, La Crosse won the title with 189.50 points and Eau Claire finished in fifth with 74.50.

Brianne Johnsrud (Sr. – Dodgeville, WI) won the weight throw with a toss of 17.06m (55-11.75) while Hanna Reed (Sr. – Fort Atkinson, WI) clocked in at 2:16.64 in the 800m to take second.

Kady Kochendorfer (Fr. - Hudson, WI) took second in the triple jump (11.65m, 38-2.75) while Megan Wallace (So. – Burlington, WI) was second in the pentathlon with 3,523 points. Wallace was first in the long jump (5.34m, 17-6.25), first in the shot put (12.22m, 40-1.25) and second in the 800m (2:29.61).

Amy Chen (So. Mayville, WI) was fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.93 while Ashley Agrimson (So. – Peterson, MN/Rushford-Peterson) was fifth (7.97).

Eau Claire dominated the 3000m run, with Blugolds taking second, third, fourth and sixth place. Lexie Tremble (Sr. – Muskego, WI) led the way, finishing in 10:17.37 with Samantha Slattery (Jr. – Waunakee, WI) following at 10:17.83. Morgan Marek (Sr. – Muskego, WI) was fourth (10:18.02) and Emma Drangstveit (So. – Lakeville, MN/North) sixth (10:18.60).

The 4x400m relay team of Lizzy Keena (So. - Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln), Karli Olsen (So. – Blue Earth, MN), Glory Hecker (Jr. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) and Tommie Brenner (Sr. – Reedsburg, WI) were third with a time of 3:59.93.

For the men, the 4x400m relay team of Hunter Henk (Jr. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls), Arik Skifstad (Fr. Eau Claire, WI/North), Brandon Christnovich (Sr. – Holmen, WI) and KJ Munn (Jr. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep Academy) finished in 3:19.89 to earn second place honors.

In addition, Dylan Cooper (Jr. – Holmen, WI) was second in the heptathlon with 5,131 points. Cooper finished first in the shot put (13.95m, 45-9.25), high jump (1.96m, 6-5) and 60m hurdles (8.37) while Patrick Treacy (Sr. – Fall Creek, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) was third in the 3000m, turning in a time of 8:26.46.

Next up on the schedule for the Blugolds is the UW-Stevens Point Last Chance meet on March 2.
