Blugolds win 6 events in final day of WIAC Championship

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's indoor track and field team took second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) while the men's team finished fourth. The Blugolds claimed wins in six events in the final day of competition at UW-Stevens Point.

The Blugold women tallied 153.5 points in their second place finish while UW-La Crosse won the meet with 201.5 points.

Hanna Reed (Jr. – For Atkinson, WI) won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.90 while Sarah Glidden (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Hortonville) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01.

The 4x400 relay team of Ashleigh Buergi (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port), Lizzy Keena (Fr. – Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln), Glory Hecker (So. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) and Glidden also took first place with a time of 3:53.78.

Mel Becker (Sr. – Osseo, WI/homeschool) was second in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:07.03 while Megan Wallace (Fr. – Burlington, WI) was third in the pentathlon with 3,109 points after tying for second in the high jump, taking third in the 800-meter and sixth in 60-meter hurdles.

For the Eau Claire men, the Blugolds recorded 88 points while UW-La Crosse was first with 157.5 points.

Darin Lau (Eau Claire, Wis./ Immanuel) won the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:23.26 while Patrick Treacy (Jr. – Fall Creek, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) was third (8:30.40).

In the 4x400 relay, the team of Aaron Zmolek (So. – Holmen, WI), KJ Munn (So. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep), Dietrich Schwoerer (So. – McFarland, WI) and Hunter Henk (So. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) took first with a time of 3:20.18.

Dylan Cooper (So. - Holmen, WI) won the heptathlon with 5,082 points after finishing first in three events (shot put, high jump, 60-meter hurdles) while TJ Lui (So. – Dousman, WI/Kettle Moraine) took second place in the triple jump (47-4.50).

The Blugolds will head back to Stevens Point next weekend for the UWSP Last Chance Meet on March 3 before gearing up for the NCAA national meet in Birmingham, Alabama March 9-10.
