Women's Tennis Names 2013-14 Team Award Winners

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team awarded five players with the 2013-14 team awards, head coach Tom Gillman recently announced.

Named Player of the Year for the third time in her career and the second straight season was Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.). Earning WIAC Player of the Year honors this season, Gillman finished as runner-up at the WIAC Championship last fall in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She completed the season with a 16-2 No. 1 singles record while going 16-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Honored with the Coaches Award was Maddie Johnson (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn./South). At the WIAC Championship last fall, Johnson was the runner-up in No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She finished the year with a 9-8 No. 2 singles record and went 15-3 in doubles, primarily competing at No. 1. Johnson previously earned the Blugold Award in 2012.

Presented with the Blugold Award was Mary Frassetto (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West). At the WIAC Championship last fall, Frassetto finished third at No. 2 doubles while taking fourth at No. 3 singles. She completed the year with a 14-5 mark, primarily competing at No. 3 singles and went 15-4, primarily competing at No. 2 doubles. Previously Frassetto earned a Team Player award in 2011, and the Most Improved Player award in both 2012 and 2013.

Earning the Team Player award for the second year in a row was Renee Nelson (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette). She was 4-2 in singles play, competing at No. 4 and No. 5, while posting a 7-1 No. 3 doubles mark.

Olivia Gallagher (Fr.-Lodi, Wis.) earned the Most Improved Player award. Gallagher had a 1-0 No. 5 singles record this season.
