Women's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Wrap up Trip with Two More Wins

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won two more matches today to complete its Spring Break trip with a 5-0 record. The Blugolds won both contests today 8-1, opening with a win over the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and ending the day with a win over Messiah College (Pa.).

Against Sioux Falls, the only match the Blugolds dropped was at No. 3 doubles.

Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Maddie Johnson (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) had the largest margin of victory as the No. 1 doubles pair picked up an 8-2 win.

In singles, Nicole Pothen (Jr.-Centerville, Minn./Centennial) lost the fewest number of games as she picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Facing Messiah, the only match the Blugolds lost was at No. 2 singles. The other five singles matches were won in straight sets with Olivia Gallagher (Fr.-Lodi, Wis.) dropping the fewest number of games at No. 5 as she won 6-1, 6-0.

Eau Claire swept the doubles competition and two pairs, No. 1 and No. 3 each won with scores of 8-3.

The Blugolds are now 12-3 on the season.

Eau Claire will be back in action April 4 with a match at the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at noon.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won its fourth straight match on Spring Break, defeating Millersville (Pa.) 9-0 today.

Day Four Results

With the Blugolds sweeping all matches, two Blugolds didn't drop a game in singles play.

Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 while Nicole Pothen (Jr.-Centerville, Minn./Centennial) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Paige Kuepers (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and Pothen dropped just one game, winning 8-1 at No. 3.

The Blugolds are now 10-3 this year.

They will play two more times Thursday to wrap up the trip, taking on Messiah (Pa.) first and following with a match against the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) that was originally scheduled for Monday.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – Playing against the College of Wooster (Ohio) on Tuesday, the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory.

Day Three Results

The Blugolds' only loss came at No. 6 singles, a match that went to a super-tiebreaker.

In singles, two Blugolds each dropped just one game. Maddie Johnson (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Madison Rossebo (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.

On the doubles side, which the Blugolds swept, Rossebo and Mary Frassetto (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) lost just one game, winning 8-1 at No. 2.

The Blugolds are now 9-3 this year and will face Millersville (Pa.) Wednesday morning.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team was originally scheduled to face the University of Sioux Falls (S.D) Monday morning but the match has been postponed due to rain. It has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST on Thursday.


Women's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Win Opener

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team, playing in its first contest of the spring on Spring Break, defeated Bloomsburg University (Pa.) 7-2 today.

Day One Results

The Blugolds' only losses of the day came at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Colleen McCullough (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) dropped the fewest number of games playing at No. 4 singles as she won 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play, Madison Rossebo (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) and Mary Frassetto (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won 8-2 in the No. 2 spot as the Blugolds swept the doubles competition.

Eau Claire is now 8-3 in duals this season.

Monday, the Blugolds will be back in action, taking on the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.).
