Women's Tennis Splits Home Matches

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing at home, the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team opened Saturday with a 9-0 victory over UW-River Falls but fell later in the day 6-3 to the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.).

Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Mary Frassetto (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) each were undefeated today in singles play.

At No. 1, Gillman started the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win against River Falls and finished with a 6-1, 6-0 victory facing Saint Benedict. She is now 5-1 on the season.

Competing at No. 3, Frassetto didn't lose a game as she won 6-0, 6-0 against River Falls. Against Saint Benedict, she dropped the opening set 6-4 but won the next two, 6-1, 6-4 to secure the match victory. Frassetto is 5-1 in singles this season.

In doubles play, Renee Nelson (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) and Paige Kuepers (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) didn't lose a match today in the No. 3 spot. They opened with an 8-1 win over River Falls and closed the day with an 8-4 victory against Saint Benedict. The pair is undefeated (6-0) so far this season.

Eau Claire is now 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

Next weekend, the Blugolds will be at the ITA Tournament in St. Peter, Minn. Action will get underway Friday and will conclude Sunday.
