Women's Tennis Wins Two in Waverly, Iowa to Stay Undefeated

WAVERLY, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two wins today, beating Wartburg College (Iowa) 8-1 and Lawrence University 9-0 on the Wartburg Tennis Courts.

Against Wartburg, the Blugolds had a number of close matches on the singles side and won all but one. Mary Frassetto (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) dropped the fewest games as she won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.

In doubles play, Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Maddie Johnson (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) won by the largest margin as they picked up an 8-0 victory at No. 1.

Results vs. Wartburg

Facing Lawrence, all six singles players won in straight sets, giving up just a combined six games. Gillman and Colleen McCullough (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) won without losing a game, at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

Paige Kuepers (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and Renee Nelson (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) had the largest margin of victory in doubles competition against Lawrence as the pair won 8-0 in the No. 3 spot.

Results vs. Lawrence

Eau Claire is now 3-0 on the season. Wartburg dropped to 2-1 and Lawrence fell to 2-3.

Next weekend the Blugolds will compete at home three times. They will take on UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. Friday and will follow with two more competitions Saturday against UW-River Falls and Saint Benedict (Minn.).
