
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team earned its sixth shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point this afternoon.
Katie Gillman (So.- Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) led the Blugolds with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 singles match. Three Blugolds – No. 1 Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley), No. 5 Renee Nelson (Fr.- Madison, Wis./La Follette) and No. 6 Lexi DeMario (So.- Verona, Wis./Verona Area) – gave up just one game in their respective singles victories.
In doubles, no Blugold duo won by less than an 8-2 match score. Heltne and Gillman teamed up to take an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 spot, the best doubles result of the night.
Eau Claire improves to 7-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in WIAC play. The Pointers fall to 2-8, 1-4 on the year.
Tomorrow the Blugolds will travel for a match against UW-Oshkosh. Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m.
