Wijesinghe & Gillman earn WIAC Player & Coach of the Year honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Natalie Wijesinghe (Sr. - Apple Valley, MN) has been tabbed the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while Head Coach Tom Gillman claimed Coach of the Year accolades.

Wijesinghe is the second individual in program history to receive the honor, joining Katie Gillman (2013). She won the No. 1 singles crown at the WIAC championship and teamed with Emily Cooper to secure the No. 1 doubles title. Wijesinghe compiled a 14-2 mark in singles events and 8-4 record in double competition this fall.

The junior was twice named WIAC Singles Player of the Week and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA singles tournament and the round of 16 for doubles.

Gillman claimed the coaching prize for the fifth time in his career after leading the Blugolds to a second-place finish at the WIAC championship. The Blugolds secured a spot in the WIAC team championship in the spring to determine the conference's automatic qualifier. UW-Eau Claire also posted a 6-3 record in dual meets this fall.
