Women's Tennis Sweeps UW-River Falls

River Falls, WI (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won their fourth dual in a row, defeating UW-River Falls 9-0 Wednesday Oct.10. The Blugolds now 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Blugolds got out to an early 3-0 win, with three victories in doubles play. Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN) and partner Emily Cooper  (White Bear, Minn.) earned a victory at the number one doubles slot, defeating Courtney French/Natalie Nelson (UWRF) 8-4. Last weeks WIAC Athletes of the Week Hanna Zevenbergen (Baldwin,Wis./ Baldwin-Woodville) and Molly Stewart (Amery, WI) kept up their winning ways with an 8-2 victory at number two doubles. Alexa Brooks (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Emma Barnd (Wells, Minn./Unites South Central) paired up and earned a win at the number three doubles slot. 

In singles action Cooper and Stewart won handily at the number two and three slots. Zevenbergen earned her win at the number three slot, defeating Delanie Otto (UWRF) 7-5, 6-3. Baarnd and Rachel Slonac (Muskego,Wis.) finished the sweep with victories at the number five and six slots, respectively.  

The women's tennis team continues WIAC play on Friday, October 12th hosting UW-Stevens Point. They will face UW-Oshkosh and Division I UW-Green Bay on Saturday October 13th, also at home at the YMCA John and Fay Menards Tennis Center.
