Women's Tennis Win Two in Texas

LONGVIEW, Texas (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team earned two victories in the first day of their spring break trip to Texas. The Blugolds defeated LeTourneau and Texas A&M Texarkana by a score of 8-1.

In their 8-1 win over LeTourneau, all three doubles matches went in favor of the Blugolds, giving them a 3-0 lead heading into singles matches.  Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) got things started with a 9-7 win at number one doubles. At number two doubles duo Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) and Emily Cooper  (Whitebear, Minn.) defeated Murray/Hall (LT) 8-2, while  Emily Cooper  (Whitebear, Minn.) and Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis.) finished the doubles sweep with an 9-8 (8-3 decision) victory at the three spot. The Blugolds continued their dominance in singles action with Wijesinghe and Henderson both earning singles victories at the number one and two slots, respectively. Stewart was victorious at the nubmer three sinlges spot, winning 6-3, 6-3. Cooper defeated Rockwell (LT) 6-3, 6-2 at the number five singles slot, and Zevenbergen won big at the number six spot. 

The Blugolds faced Texas A&M Texarkana later in the day and came away with another 8-1 victory. The Blugolds won two of three doubles matches to enter singles play with an 2-1 lead. Stewart and Cooper earned their second doubles win of the day at the two spot, with Berry and Zevenbergen tallying another win at the three slot. The Blugolds swept singles action with Wijesinghe, Henderson, and Stewart all winning convincingly at the number one,two, and three spots. Berry and Cooper continued to roll at the four and five spots, respectively and Molly Sanvik (Winona, Minn.) was able to finish the sinlges sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. 

 

The Blugolds improve to 10-1 on the season and will face Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center tomorrow.
