EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tennis teams recently announced their team award winners at the team banquet.
For the Blugold women, Natalie Wijesinghe (Fr. – Apple Valley, MN) was named Player of the Year after her first season at UW-Eau Claire. She finished the season 19-8 and earned Second Team All-WIAC honors for No. 2 singles. Wijesinghe also earned Second Team honors for No. 1 Doubles with Sarah Henderson (Jr. – Prior Lake, MN) and tallied an overall doubles record of 15-3.
Earning the Most Improved Player Award was Molly Stewart (So. – Amery, WI) who was 19-7 and earned Second Team All-WIAC honors for No. 4 singles.
The Team Player Award went to Olivia Gallagher (Sr. – Lodi, WI) who was 18-7 while Molly Sanvik (So. – Winona, MN) earned the Coach's Award after finishing 11-3 this season.
Brooke Volpone (Sr. – Monticello, MN) received the Blugold Award and was Second Team All-WIAC at No. 3 doubles with Hannah Zevenbergen (Fr. – Baldwin, WI/Baldwin-Woodville).
As a team the Blugolds were 14-7 overall and took second place in the WIAC with a 4-2 record.
On the men's side, Zach Janssen (Fr. – Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame) earned Player of the Year honors after going 18-4 in his first season as a Blugold.
Earning the Most Improved Player Award was Tom Williams (Fr. – Burnsville, MN) while the Blugold Award went to Will Weyenberg (Sr. – Neenah, WI).
Michael Mauthe (Sr. – Neenah, WI) received the Coach's Award and Conrad Felten (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East) earned the Team Player Award.
The men's squad finished the season with a record of 14-7.
