Women's Tennis Falls at WIAC Final Four

JANESVILLE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team fell 6-3 to UW-La Crosse in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team Tournament semifinal match Saturday at the Premier Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Blugolds headed into the semifinal as the No. 2 seed but fell to the No. 3 Eagles, who went on to face UW-Whitewater in the final. UW-Whitewater claimed the WIAC Championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship on May 12. 

Results: 

The Blugolds started strong with two wins in doubles play but were unable to carry momentum into singles action.  Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) and partner Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) won 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles slot. Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn.) with partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis. / Baldwin-Woodville) earned the other Blugold victory in doubles action, winning 8-5 at the No. 3 slot. Volpone earned the only singles victory of the day defeating Fleming (UWL) 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles slot. 

The Blugold women finish their season with a 14-7 record.
