Women's Tennis Cruises Past St. Norbert, Falls to UW- Green Bay

Green Bay, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team cruised past St. Norbert 8-1 and then fell to UW-Green Bay 5-4.

In their first match of the day, the Blugolds defeated St. Norbert College 8-1. The Blugolds swept doubles play starting with a win from No. 1 doubles duo Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.). The pair defeated Elizabeth Manlick/Meg Witt (SNC) 8-3. Olivia Gallagher (Lodi, Wis.) and Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) earned a 9-8 win at the No. 2 doubles spot, while Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn) and partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis.) finished the doubles sweep with a 8-2 win at the No. 3 slot.

Wijesinghe won her fifth straight singles match at the No.1 singles slot, defeating Manlick (SNC) 6-3, 6-0. Stewart, Gallagher and Volpone all had convincing wins at the No.3, No.4, and No.5 singles slots, respectively. Molly Sanvik (Winona, Minn.) had a dominate performance at the No. 6 slot, winning 6-2, 6-2.

In the second match of the day, the Blugolds fell to Division I UW-Green Bay 5-4. The Blugolds won two of three doubles matches and headed into singles play with a 2-1 lead. Wijesinghe and Henderson earned a 7-6 win at No.1 doubles, and Volpone and Zevenbergen won 7-5 at No. 3 doubles. In singles action Gallagher defeated Neff (UWGB) 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 at the No. 4 singles slot and Sanvik was victorious at the No. 6 slot, winning 6-0, 6-4.

The Blugolds will host St. Scholastica on April 12 at 3:00pm.
