Women's Tennis Finishes Spring Break Trip With 8-1 Win Over Austin

Sherman, TX (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated Austin College 8-1 in their final match of spring break. The Blugolds won four out of six matches on their spring break trip to Texas.  

The Blugolds got out to an early 2-1 lead, winning doubles matches at the two and three spots. At number two doubles, Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) and Molly Sanvik (Winona, Minn.) earned a 8-4 victory, while Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn.) and partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis. / Baldwin-Woodville) defeated Green/Willis (AC) 8-4 at the three spot. 

The Blugolds went on to sweep singles play and convincingly defeated the Kangaroo woman. Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) picked up another win at number one singles defeating Weber (AU) 7-6, 6-0. Stewart and Volpone earned victories at the number two and three singles slots, while  Olivia Gallagher (Lodi, Wis.) won at number four singles, with scores of 6-2, 6-2. Sanvik and  Kendra Berry (Duluth, Minn/East) both had 6-1, 6-0 wins at number five and six singles, respectively.

The Blugolds compete again April 8 as they travel to Green Bay, WI to face St. Norbert and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
