Women's Tennis Sweeps UW-Stevens Point

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team notched a win on Friday, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 9-0.

Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) led the way for the Blugolds at number one singles defeating Asfeld (UWSP) 7-3, 6-3. Freshman Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) picked up another convincing win at number two singles defeating Lemmer (UWSP) 6-1, 6-1. Olivia Gallagher (Lodi, Wis.) won at the number three slot, 4-6, 6-4, 10-3. Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) and Kendra Berry (Duluth, Minn/East) both had 6-1, 6-0 wins at number four and five singles, respectively. Bailey Budnik (Manitowoc, Wis. /Lincoln) finished the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Wilichowski (UWSP). 

The Blugolds had no problems in doubles play, Henderson and Wijesinghe won 8-3 in the number one slot.  Gallagher and Stewart followed suit with an 8-3 win and Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn.) with partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis. / Baldwin-Woodville) finished the sweep with an 8-3 win. 

The Blugolds, now 3-2 in conference play, will host UW-Oshkosh tomorrow October 15 at 10:00am.
