Women's Tennis Downs UW-River Falls

River Falls, WI (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team swept their fourth opponent in a row, defeating UW-River Falls 9-0 Wednesday September 21. The Blugolds now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. 

Results

Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) led the way for the Blugolds at number one singles with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win. Freshman Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) picked up another convincing win at number two singles defeating Deering (UW-River Falls) 6-1,6-3. Olivia Gallagher (Lodi,Wis.) had no problem at the number three slot winning 6-4, 6-0. Molly Stewart (Amery,Wis.) and Kendra Berry (Duluth, Minn/East) both had 6-1, 6-1 wins at number four and five singles, respectively. Bailey Budnik (Manitowoc, Wis. /Lincoln) finished the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Helland (UW-River Falls).

In doubles action Henderson and Wijesinghe made quick work of the number one doubles pair from UW-River Falls, winning 8-0. Gallagher and Stewart followed suit with a 8-2 win and Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn.) with partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis./ Baldwin-Woodville) finished the sweep with an 8-2 win. 

The Blugolds visit St. Peter, Minn., starting Friday September 23 for a three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championship.
