Women's Tennis Dominates UW-Stout and Saint Benedict

Menomonie Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two wins in dominating fashion Saturday September 17. The Blugolds swept both UW-Stout and Saint Benedict 9-0 and improved to a 3-1 record.

Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, MN) led the Blugolds with two wins at number one singles, the junior defeated Thisius of UW-Stout 6-1, 6-0, and followed it up with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Finn of Saint Benedict. Freshman Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN) had another great day with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Pedersen (UW-Stout) and a 6-4, 6-3 win over Rahrick (CSB). Olivia Gallagher (Lodi, WI) and Molly Stewart (Amery, WI) had great days winning both matches at number three and four singles, respectively. Kendra Berry (Duluth, MN) and Bailey Budnik (Manitowoc, WI/ Lincoln) finished both sweeps with dominating performances of their own at number five and six singles. 

In number one doubles action Henderson and Wijesinghe won their match Saturday morning 8-2 over UW-Stout. The pair followed up with an 8-3 win Saturday afternoon over Saint Benedict. Gallagher and Stewart defeated Pedersen/Welke (UW-Stout) 8-1 and number two doubles and won 8-4 over the number two doubles team from Saint Benedict. Brooke Volpone (Monticello, MN) paired with Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, WI/ Baldwin-Woodville) at number three doubles; the pair defeated UW-Stout 8-2 and Saint Benedict 8-5. 

The Blugolds improved to 3-1 on the season and will be back in action on September 21.
