Blugolds Compete at Warhawks Invitational

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team competed at the UW-Whitewater Invitational over the weekend. The Blugolds competed in a singles and doubles draw tournament.

At number one singles Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, MN) dropped her first match but picked up a second round win over Sagen of UW-Oshkosh. Henderson moved on to the consolation championship match and was defeated 4-6, 5-7. At number two singles freshman Natalie Wijesinghe took third place earning wins over Dana Dray (IWU) and Sadie Spahn (UWLAX). 

Kendra Berry (Duluth, MN/East) won the number three singles championship, winning a first round match over Claire Alderton (Carthage) 7-5, 6-2. Barry defeated Vicki Andonova (Augustana) in the second round 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. In the championship, the sophomore dominated Kassie Alexander (UW-Whitewater) 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play the pair of Olivia Gallagher (Lodi, WI) and Molly Stewart (Amery, WI) took 7th at number one doubles. Brooke Volpone (Monticello, MN) and Bailey Budnik won the consolation championship at number two doubles. The pair earned a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over UWO in the consolation final. At number three doubles Blugolds Molly Sanvik (Winona, MN) and Hannah Zevenbergen won their first round game over Grinnell 6-3, 6-0. The pair were defeated in the second round by UW-Whitewater but went on to win third place in their bracket. 

The Blugolds are back in action traveling to Wartburg next Saturday September 10th.
