Four Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Four UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Honored this week were women's cross country runner Lucy Ramquist (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.), and women's tennis players Madison Rossebo (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.), Nicole Pothen (Sr.-Centerville, Minn./Centennial) and Paige Kuepers (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest).

Ramquist was the top WIAC finisher, taking eighth place overall in a field of 409 runners at the Blugold Invitational on Oct. 3.  She led the Blugolds to a fifth-place finish out of 24 teams and covered the 6,000-meter course in time of 22:45.

Facing two conference opponents at home during the week, Rossebo won both of her No. 4 matches, dropping only five games along the way.  Against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 3, a team the Blugolds beat 9-0, she won 6-1, 6-2.  Rossebo followed that with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on Oct. 4, as the Blugolds defeated UW-Oshkosh 9-0.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Pothen and Kuepers won two matches against WIAC opponents during the week to improve to 6-1 on the season.  Pothen and Kuepers won 8-2 against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 3, as the Blugolds won 9-0, while winning 8-2 on Oct. 4, against UW-Oshkosh, a team the Blugolds also beat 9-0.
