Senczyszyn defends 100-yard breaststroke title, National Champion for second time

SHENANDOAH, Tex. (blugolds.com) - The third day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships saw a repeat champion in the 100-yard breaststroke. That champion is the Blugolds' Samantha Senczyszyn (So.-Grafton, WI), who successfully defended her title in the event from a year ago.

The sophomore won with a time of 1:01.64 in the finals, finishing nearly a full second ahead of the runner-up finisher. She began the race seeded first and placed accordingly to become a National Champion for the second time.

The finish helped the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire team move up ten spots in the standings. They now sit in 24th place with 30 team points.

Additionally, Jessica Short (So.-Grafton, WI) competed in the 100-yard backstroke and Sara Hagen (Fr.-McFarland, WI) in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday. Both finished in 34th place in the preliminaries and did not qualify for the finals.

The National Championships conclude on Saturday with the final day of competition.
