BROWN DEER, Wisc. (blugolds.com) - The 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships (presented by Culver's) concluded on Saturday, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's swim and dive team finished in second place with 784.50 team points.
For the second straight year, Samantha Senczyszyn (So.-Grafton, WI) was named Swimmer of the Meet. She took home the win in the 100 yard freestyle with a school and WIAC Meet record time of 50.18, which was faster than last year's NCAA invite time. She was also a part of the runner-up team in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Brittany Farr (So.-Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial), Sara Hagen (Fr.-Mc Farland, WI), and Jessica Short (So.-Grafton, WI) made up the rest of the team who managed a time of 3:30.83.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Short's time of 2:04.11 finished atop the field, and Hagen was victorious in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.15. Both times qualify for an NCAA B cut time.
Sari Mailey (Jr.-Minnetrista, MN/Mound Westonka) (17:47.79) and Anna Theisen (Fr.-Glenbeulah, WI/Plymouth) (18:27.45) went one and three in the 1650 yard freestyle, and Nina Tabatabai (Sr.-Rochester, MN/Century) clinched a third place finish with her time of 2:10.36 in the 200 yard butterfly.
In the diving portion of the meet, Bailei Hughes (Jr.-Winona, MN) qualified for NCAA zones for the 1 meter dive.
Selected to this year's All-Sportsmanship Team was Rachel Chatwin (So.-Forest Lake, MN).
The next competitions for the Blugold women are Diving Zones on February 24-25 followed by the NCAA Championships on March 15-18.
