Blugold Women's Swim & Dive flies past Warhawks

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team earned a big win in their final dual of the season, defeating UW-Whitewater 180-118.

The 200-yard medley relay team got things rolling for the Blugolds as Amanda Wiedorff, Samantha Senczyszyn, Elissa Hermsen and Carli Olson turned in a winning time of 1:51.22, winning by a margin of nearly seven seconds.

Olson won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.89) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.57) while Jessica Short and Wiedorff went one-two in the 100-yard backstroke, recording times of 1:00.76 and 1:02.26, respectively. Short also won the 200-yard IM (2:15.49) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.26).

Senczyszyn won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.21) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.55) while Hermsen won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.02 and was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.63.

Sara Tainter won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.30. Divers Bailei Hughes and Marlee Brunow took the top spots in the one-meter dive, tallying scores of 210.50 and 193.70, respectively. In the three-meter, Hughes again took top honors (172.85) while Brunow was third (153.70).

Sari Mailey took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:21.38 while Nina Tabatabai was second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.11.

The Blugolds finished the meet the way they started, with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Olson, Brittany Farr, Short and Senczyszyn claiming the win with a time of 1:40.95.

"Whitewater is a tough, well-coached team," said Head Coach Annie Ryder. "We are looking forward to seeing them again at conference. Our women swam tough and through some illness and injuries today but we are looking forward to preparing for the championship season. It was a great way to close out the dual meet season."

The divers will compete at the Minnesota Challenge Feb. 3-4 before the team travels to Brown Deer, Wis. for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Feb. 16-18.
