Women's Swim & Dive dominates Luther

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team hosted Luther College on Friday night, defeating the Norse by a score of 214-84.

The Blugolds set the tone from the beginning, with Eau Claire teams taking the top four spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Amanda Wiedorff, Samantha Senczyszyn, Elissa Hermsen and Carli Olson took first with a time of 1:51.85.

Senczyszyn would go on to win two individual events, the 50-yard freestyle (24.47) and 100-yard freestyle (53.49).

Jessica Short also won multiple events on the night, winning the 50-yard backstroke (28.37), 100-yard backstroke (1:01.25) and 200-yard IM (2.16.50).

Olson also had a dominating performance in the 200-yard freestyle, where she clocked a time of 2:00.71, winning by nearly seven seconds.

Sari Mailey won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:25.85 while Camille Madsen won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 33.22 and Sara Tainter won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.31).

Hermsen turned in a winning time in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:04.05, just edging teammate Nina Tabatabai who finished in 1:04.56.

In the last event, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Senczyszyn, Hermsen, Olson and Short won the event with a time of 3:47.07.

Bailei Hughes won the 1-meter dive with a score of 259.20 and qualified for the NCAA diving zone meet.

"We had a tough week of practice so I was really pleased to see how well they swam," said Head Coach Annie Ryder. "They raced really tough and fought to the end. The divers also had an excellent meet. They continue to improve each week and are doing some great dives on the boards."


The Blugolds will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to La Crosse for a 1 p.m. meet.
