Senczyszyn wins three events as Blugolds split at UWSP Triangular

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team competed at UW-Stevens Point Triangular on Saturday where they defeated UW-Stevens Point and fell to St. Cloud State University.

The Blugolds beat fellow Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Stevens Point by a score of 197.00 to 65.00 but fell to the NCAA Division II Huskies, 196-66.

Samantha Senczyszyn led the Blugolds for the second meet in a row, winning all three of her individual events. Senczyszyn won the 100-yard breaststroke with time of 1:04.62 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.94, beating the second place finisher by nearly four seconds in both events. The sophomore also took first in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:12.10.

Two relay teams placed third for the Blugolds. The 200-yard medley relay team of Jessica Short, Camille Madden, Elissa Hermsen, and Carli Olson finished in a time of 1:53.88 while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Senczyszyn, Short, Olson and Brittany Farr finished in 1:40.97.

Individually, Short took third in two events, finishing the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.70 and 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.45

Olson also did well as an individual, taking third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.60 and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.78 while Hermsen clocked in at 2:19.07 in the 200-yard butterfly, placing fourth. Teammate Sari Mailey was fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:35.74

Bailei Hughes was the top diver for Eau Claire, finishing fifth in the 1-meter with a score of 199.85. She was ninth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 162.60.

The Blugolds will return to action Friday, Oct. 28 as they host Luther College at 5 p.m.
