Senczyszyn leads Blugolds in opening meet

MANKATO, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's swim and dive team opened the 2016-17 season with a win over Augustana University and loss to Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday night.

The Blugolds beat the Augustana 163.00 to 120.00 while falling to host Mankato 168.00 to 117.00.

Samantha Senczyszyn won three individual events to lead the Blugolds. The sophomore won the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke with times of 29.98 and 1:05.55, respectively, and also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.51, nearly seven seconds faster than the next finisher.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Senczyszyn, Brittany Farr, Carli Olson and Jessica Short were second with a time of 1:41.86 while Short was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.24. In the 100-yard freestyle, Olson was second with a time of 55.62.

Next up for Eau Claire is the Stevens Point/St. Cloud Triangular on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
