Swim & Dive finishes with 16 new school records at WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The final day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships was another memorable one for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swim and dive team as more school records fell as well as an NCAA Divison III record.

Samantha Senczyszyn (Fr.-Grafton, WI) added to her medal count in the 200-yard breaststroke as she set the NCAA Division III record with a time of 2:12.20. She also teamed up with Allie Hable (Sr.-Ankeny, IA), Maddie Gray (Sr.-Roseville MN) and Jessica Short (So.-Grafton, WI) for the 400-yard freestyle relay where they set another school record with a winning time of 3:27.36. The time ranks the relay sixth in the country.

Short won the 200-yard backstroke and set another school record with a time of 2:02.90 and also earned an NCAA B cut. In addition, Hannah Sisto (Fr.-Neenah, WI) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.27.

Overall, the women's team fell just eight points shy of the WIAC title, placing second with 798 points while UW-La Crosse took the title with a score of 806.

On the men's side, the Blugolds took third, improving on last season's fourth place finish. Eau Claire was led by Ryan Young (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/North) who won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.62 and Thomas Hensen (Jr.-Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine) who finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and set a new school record. The time was also good enough for an NCAA B cut.

For the meet, the Blugolds broke a total of 16 school records. In addition, Senczyszyn was named Swimmer of the Meet and Head Coach Annie Ryder was named WIAC Coach of the Year.
