ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Eau-Claire Women's soccer team went on the road Tuesday to battle against the St. Catherine University Wildcats. In an intense matchup, the Blugolds would fight hard for a late tally and a 1-1 draw on the road.
A tight matchup between the Blugolds and St. Kate's offense was strong throughout the half creating opportunities off long balls, crosses through the middle, and corner kicks. A miscue off a clearance by the Eau Claire defense gave the Wildcats' offense the opportunity to score in the final minute of the first half, sending the Blugolds into halftime down 0-1.
In the second half, both teams would go back and forth with scoring opportunities off of through passes, but the Eau Claire defense would hold down the back line to keep St. Kate's at bay. Late in the second half, the UWEC increased the offensive pressure on St. Kate's with multiple crosses and shots in the box. The Blugold attack finally cashed in as Emma Stange (Sr. -- Andover, MN) blasted the ball into the top left corner of the goal from the top of the box in the 83rd minute to draw even with the opponent for a final 1-1 draw. Megan Hansen (Sr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) would receive the single assist on game tying goal for her sixth point of the season.
Kennedy Boll (So. – Franklin, WI) stopped four of the five shots she faced to earn her first draw of the season. Boll is now 3-3-1 on the year.
The Blugolds (3-3-1) will be back at home on Thursday, September 22th as they host Bethel University at Simpson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
