EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer defeated UW-La Crosse 2-1 on Senior Day.

Box Score

Hannah Schaetzel (Jr.-Germantown, WI) scored in the 11th minute, giving the Blugolds the early lead. It was her second goal of the season, both of them coming in the last few games.

Neither team was able to add to the score the rest of the first half, even though Eau Claire put together six shots. However, they would put another in net within the first few minutes of the second. Maddie Ames (Jr.-Shakopee, MN) powered in her second goal of the fall, and first since early September.

La Crosse would apply pressure with a goal in the 52nd minute, but the Blugold defense managed to stay firm. Goalkeeper Anna Sveiven (Jr.-Blaine, MN/Centennial) continued her hot stretch, with eight saves in total. With the exception of the UW-Oshkosh game that went into overtime, Sveiven has not allowed multiple goals since mid-September.

Eau Claire now sits at 12-5 and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They will go on the road Wednesday, Oct. 30 for their match against UW-Whitewater and return home to face UW-Stout on Nov. 2. WIAC Tournament action begins Tuesday, November 5th.
