Soccer earns 2-1 win over Macalester

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated Macalester (Minn.) 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Blugolds applied offensive pressure early on before Courtney Slowinski (Fr.-Byron, MN) netted the first goal of the contest in the 16th minute. It was Slowinski's fifth goal of the 2019 season, which leads the team.

Neither offense was able to get on the board again in the first half, although Eau Claire did outshoot Macalester 8-2 in the half.

Macalester was able to tie things up in the 50th minute, but the Blugolds were able to strike last, in the 84th minute behind a powerful boot from Emily Sullivan (Sr.-Medina, MN/Wayzata). The goal marked Sullivan's fourth of the fall. The relentless Blugold attack finished the night with 15 shots in total.

In goal, Anna Sveiven (Jr.-Blaine, MN/Centennial) recorded four saves. She currently leads the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in save percentage (.892) and is second in total saves, with 91.

The Blugolds (11-5, 2-2 WIAC) will back in action at Bollinger Fields this Saturday, October 26th. The Senior Day game will be against UW-La Crosse and will kick off at 2 PM.
