STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire soccer team was unable to overcome UW-Stevens Point in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener, losing 1-0.

Box Score

Both offenses struggled to get things going early, with neither able to put much pressure on the opposing goaltenders in the first half. A penalty kick goal from the Pointers late in the 29th minute proved to be the deciding factor.

Despite the fact Eau Claire was not able to score, they finished the match with 11 shots in total, with seven of them coming in the second half. Emily Sullivan (Sr.-Medina, MN/Wayzata) led all Blugolds with four shots while Emma Stange (So.-Andover, MN/Anoka) added five, including one as time expired.

In goal, Anna Sveiven (Jr.-Blaine, MN/Centennial) was once again terrific, finishing the match with 12 saves. The one goal was Sveiven's first allowed since September 21st against Dubuque (IA).

The loss dropped the Blugolds to 7-4 overall and now 0-1 in WIAC action, snapping a three-game win streak. They have a great opportunity to get back on track this Saturday, as they square off against UW-Platteville at home. The match will kick-off at 2 PM and will serve as Parents' Weekend.
