Sullivan nets game-winner in OT

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team earned a 3-2 overtime win over UW-River Falls on Wednesday, thanks to a game-winning goal by Emily Sullivan (Jr. – Medina, MN/Wayzata).

Sullivan notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season – and fifth game-winner – in the 97th minute off an assist from Krista Koenig (Fr. – Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest).

The Blugolds got on the board first on Wednesday as Mercedes Wilson (So. – Dousman, WI/Kettle Moraine) found the back of the net ten minutes into the game thanks to a Lauren Talbot (Fr. – Anoka, MN) assist. The Falcons would even the score 13 minutes later and the two squads took a 1-1 tie into the half.

Eau Claire reclaimed the lead at the 51 minute mark, this time with Monica Zoellner (Sr. – East Troy, WI) scoring her fifth goal of the season. Anna Larson (So. – Lakeville, MN/North) would be credited with the assist. River Falls tied it again midway through the second half and force the game into overtime.

The Blugolds outshot the Falcons 18-8 and held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Sammie Lefaive (Sr. – Coon Rapids, MN) earned the win in goal and improves to 7-6-1 on the season.
