Soccer falls in double OT in season opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team opened the season in Iowa on Friday, falling to the University of Dubuque at Oyen Field in double-overtime, 1-0.

Both teams came out firing in the first half, with each squad recording seven shots. The Blugolds and Spartans matched shots again in the second half, each putting up five more shots but neither team could find the back of the net.

The first overtime was uneventful, forcing yet another frame. The Spartans scored the game-winner at the 111:18 mark as Natalie Dienstbach's header off a corner kick gave Dubuque the opening day win.
