Lenz named Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Lauren Lenz has been selected the recipient of the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Award.

A senior from Saint Germain, Wis. (Northland Pines), Lenz is majoring in kinesiology and sustains a 3.82 grade point average. A year ago, she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region Team. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and been recognized on UW-Eau Claire's Dean' List numerous semesters.

A two-year team captain, Lenz received All-WIAC first team recognition a season ago and earned a spot on the NSCAA All-North Region third team.

She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, as well as UW-Eau Claire's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Pre-Physical and Occupational Therapy Club. Lenz has served as an Anatomy & Physiology Lab Assistant and a volunteer with Physical Activity and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities.

Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were:  UW-La Crosse's Hayley Stephens (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial); UW-Oshkosh's Alexandra Vandenberg (Sr., Neenah, Wis.); UW-Stevens Point's Kara Herr (Sr., Shafer, Minn./Chicago Lakes); UW-Stout's Haley Wentz (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley); and UW-Whitewater's Devon Polk (Sr., Racine, Wis./St. Catherine).
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
